Police have evacuated residents in Bessbrook, County Armagh following reports of a loud explosion at a housing estate late on Thursday night. (January 27)

PSNI have cordoned off the John F Kennedy park area after debris from a suspected pipe bomb was located.

There are no reports so far of anyone being injured by the explosion.

Emergency services are currently conducting a public safety operation and homes near to the incident have been evacuated as a precaution.

Police are urgently appealing for witnesses and have asked anyone with information to come forward.
